Diamond Jewellery Care

We are proud that all Birks diamonds adhere to the Kimberley Process, an international certification serving to ensure that diamonds are conflict-free. Birks Canadian-mined diamonds meet strict colour, clarity and proportion criteria and are traceable from the mine to the Birks Blue Box. Daily Care

To extend the life of your Birks diamond jewellery, we recommend removing your jewellery:

  • Before you wash your hands.
  • Using lotion, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics.
  • Household & outdoor chores (chlorine bleach will pit and discolour mountings).
  • Exercising or during any sports.
  • Preparing meals.
  • Swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean.
  • Extreme temperatures.
  • For engagement rings, periodically check to make sure your setting is secure and the prongs are intact. Visit a Maison Birks or Birks store to have settings checked.

We recommend that you store your jewellery in its Birks Bell Box or pouch for safekeeping when not being worn.

How to clean your diamond jewellery

We recommend cleaning your Birks diamond jewellery with our gold polishing cloth and/or jewel sparkle solution.

  • Place your jewellery in the basket and dip into the jewellery cleaner.
  • After 2-3 minutes, carefully remove your jewellery from the solution.
  • Gently clean behind the settings and in between crevices with the soft bristle brush to remove any hard to reach debris.
  • Rinse well in a bowl of clean water, then dry with a soft cloth and shine your jewellery with the gold polishing cloth.
  • Do not use rough paper towels to dry as it can scratch/damage diamonds.

We welcome you to bring your Birks jewellery at a Maison Birks or Birks store for professional cleaning.
