HOW SHOULD I CHOOSE JEWELLERY FOR A BABY?

When shopping for jewellery pieces for babies, there should be a few matters to consider. Are the baby’s ears pierced if you’re interested in purchasing earrings? Does the child have any known allergies? It is best to consult the parents if gifting jewellery, as they can guide you through these questions.

Sterling silver and gold jewellery is most recommended for babies, as they are hypoallergenic and ensure long-lasting wear.

IS IT SAFE FOR BABIES TO WEAR EARRINGS?

Yes, if the baby’s ears are professionally pierced and properly cared for. Birks offers baby earrings with secure screw-back or flat-back posts, designed for both safety and comfort. It is strongly suggested to consult a pediatrician before piercing a baby’s ears.

WHAT TYPE OF EARRING BACKINGS ARE BEST FOR BABIES AND KIDS?

For babies and toddlers, a screw-back earring backing is the safest option for them to wear. Earrings with secure backings will prevent the child from accidentally swallowing or losing the backing. As a child gets older, alternative backings may be introduced.

CAN ADULTS WEAR JEWELLERY FOR BABY AND KIDS?

Most Birks jewellery for baby and kids can be worn by adults. While proportionally, earrings marked for baby and kids may seem smaller than an average stud earring, they can certainly be worn by an adult. When considering a kids’ bracelet for adult wear, ensure the length of the bracelet is at least 6 inches. For kids’ necklaces, it is recommended for the chain to be at least 15 inches for it to be suitable for adults.

Additionally, items designed for adults can be worn for older children and teenagers. Designs of the products should be considered before wear to ensure safety.
