Daily Care

To extend the life of your Birks silver jewellery, we recommend removing your jewellery:

  • Before you wash your hands.
  • Using lotion, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics.
  • Household & outdoor chores (chlorine bleach will pit and discolour mountings).
  • Exercising or during any sports.
  • Preparing meals.
  • Swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean.
  • Extreme temperatures and humidity.

We recommend that you store your jewellery in its Birks pouch for safekeeping when not being worn. 

How to clean your gemstone jewellery

Since Birks sterling silver jewellery is rhodium plated, no maintenance is required other than the occasional wiping with a damp cloth.

  • Use of any cloth that is treated with chemicals is not recommended on our sterling silver jewellery.
  • Never use silver polish or dip-style cleaning solutions on any Birks sterling silver jewellery.
  • Use of these will remove the rhodium plating and will eventually cause the jewellery to tarnish.
