Daily Care

To extend the life of your Birks gemstone jewellery, we recommend removing your jewellery:

  • Before you wash your hands.
  • Using lotion, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics.
  • Household & outdoor chores (chlorine bleach will pit and discolour mountings).
  • Exercising or during any sports.
  • Preparing meals.
  • Swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean.
  • Extreme temperatures.

We recommend that you store your jewellery in its Birks pouch for safekeeping when not being worn.

How to clean your gemstone jewellery

We recommend cleaning your Birks gemstone jewellery with our gold polishing cloth and/or jewel sparkle solution.

  • Place your jewellery in the basket and dip into the jewellery cleaner.
  • After 2-3 minutes, carefully remove your jewellery from the solution.
  • Gently clean in between crevices with the soft bristle brush to remove any hard to reach debris.
  • Rinse well in a bowl of clean water, then dry with a soft cloth and shine your jewellery with the gold polishing cloth.
  • Do not use rough paper towels to dry as it can scratch/damage gemstones.

*Delicate gemstones such as pearls, emeralds, opals, mother-of-pearl, malachite, lapis lazuli, black onyx and carnelian can only be cleaned with a soft damp cloth and should not be submerged in jewellery cleaner or in an ultrasonic machine.

We welcome you to bring your Birks jewellery at a Maison Birks or Birks store for professional cleaning.
